Pete has an extensive, diverse portfolio of entrepreneurial experience in the southeast, including ownership and management of three steel heat treating facilities.

He also was the founding principal of Porta-Nails, a leading manufacturer of floor nailing equipment.

Pete owned and operated Cape Fear River Wood which salvaged sunken logs originally harvested in the 1700 and 1800s, processing them into architectural timber beams and heart pine flooring. In so doing, he was featured in Southern Living Magazine.

He is a noted real estate developer, having created and marketed several residential subdivisions/ industrial sites in the local area. Pete is an active licensed real estate broker.

A Rotarian for over 37 years, Pete has consistently “given back” to his community, having served as Wilmington City Planning Board, Chairman of the New Hanover County Board of Adjustments as well as being a long-time member of the Foundation Board for Cape Fear Community College.

Pete and wife, Terry, have been residents of Wilmington for the past 34 years.

Cynthia is an experienced mediator, business coach, entrepreneur, and I/O psychologist with over 20 years business consulting experience.

After completing her undergraduate degree at Pepperdine University, and mediation training through Pepperdine Law School, Cynthia returned to Wilmington and followed in her father’s footsteps by starting her first business at 23 years old. She was a founding board member and subsequently the first executive director of the organization now known as the ADR center in Wilmington.

Having learned business start-up the hard way, Cynthia began a consulting and training firm to help other not-for-profit and for-profit start-ups. From there her consulting practice expanded to provide business consulting, coaching, and training to local and regional clients as diverse as The Army Corps of Engineers, The NC Partnership for Children, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Ten years ago, Cynthia narrowed her consulting and training practice exclusively to commercial nuclear power clients, while she completed a masters and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Her dissertation on the personality of successful nuclear power license candidates was the first study of its kind in the industry. She has consulted to utilities nationally and internationally on personality and selection. She continues to provide psychological and cognitive assessments to nuclear power utilities to assist in the selection of licensed nuclear operators.

Recently, Cynthia has joined her father, Pete, as his partner in New South Business Brokers, bringing her considerable experience back to Southeastern NC to help business owners find the right buyer, and matching buyers to the right business opportunity.

Cynthia and her husband, Nathan Cochrane, are raising the last of four boys together in Wilmington, NC where they also own Coastal Designer Glass, a specialty glass shop. Cynthia and Nathan are both musicians and enjoy leading worship at their church, cooking together, and living the coastal lifestyle with their family.

A graduate of Ohio State, Steve is a seasoned marketing professional with 23 years experience as a consistently successful local business owner himself.  As a direct result, Steve carries a deep appreciation of the key issues facing today’s business owners and thoroughly understands what it takes to be successful in a competitive business environment.

Steve has worked in a hands-on mode with a wide variety of business owners engaged in retail, manufacturing, service, distribution, accounting, restaurants, printing, communications, and entertainment industries. He has been instrumental in helping many business owners develop marketing plans and custom-tailored strategies to maximize market share. This, of course, becomes of paramount importance as the owner begins to develop an exit strategy toward achieving the highest possible value for his/her business.

Steve is a consistently strong business advocate with an unwavering commitment to provide each client with superior results.

Personally, Steve is actively involved in many facets of the community and a long-time member of Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce. He, wife Brenda and family are members of “the Pumpkin Church” aka Wesley Memorial UMC.

chantayChantay Allen


Chantay Allen is a native of Southern California and has been a Port City resident for seven years. Chantay’s diverse business background in health and fitness management and education in the social sciences, along with her business acumen and Spanish fluency make her a welcome addition to the New South team.

Chantay received an Associate of Arts degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Citrus College in Glendora, California and transferred her studies to the University of North Carolina Wilmington to pursue an undergraduate study in Public Sociology with a Discipline in Health & Aging. In her eleven years invested in the health and wellness industry, Chantay has done everything from managing four corporate nutrition supplement stores in two different states to establishing her own clientele as a Personal Trainer for five years at a local family-owned gym.

Nearly five years of combined retail management experience in North Carolina and California has earned Chantay a broad perspective and developed her expertise in product information, customer service, employee training, sales, retail operations, inventory control, budgeting, merchandising, state labor laws, and knowledge of corporate-to-franchise relations. As an Inside Sales Representative for a Consumer Products line at a minority-owned small business in California, Chantay raised the bar by setting a new sales quota. In addition to her Spanish speaking ability, her work with factories in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China, has increased Chantay’s commitment to “think globally and act locally”.

Chantay is also a local business owner. She now owns and operates a Max Muscle Sports Nutrition of ILM store in addition to her work as a broker associate. As a strong advocate of community health and environmental conservation, Chantay is approaching her fourth year on the Cape Fear River Watch Board of Directors and is the Chair of the organization’s Membership Committee.

Chantay enjoys teaching Mat Pilates, kayaking, trail running, hiking, and various forms of art. The thriving Lower Cape Fear region has become a special place for Chantay to live, as she enjoys the benefits of coastal living and helping hardworking local businesses grow.

williamWilliam Yarborough

William has focused his career in the construction / maritime business along the eastern seaboard of the United States, stretching from North Carolina to New Hampshire.

A football standout from Fayetteville, NC, William attended the prestigious preparatory and naval honor school Tabor Academy in Massachusetts, where he received his Mass Maritime certificate and earned a Full Scholarship to play Division 1 football at the University of New Hampshire. While at UNH, William had the honor of playing for the current NFL 49ers head coach Chip Kelly. William has worked for some of Boston and Cape Cod’s elite construction and electrical companies and still keeps in close contact with all peers from MA and NH who are tired of the cold and would like to enjoy the North Carolina weather. William’s family has lived in the Fayetteville area for over 200 years and has many ties to this region.

William has excelled in construction sales in three fortune 500 companies where he worked as an outside, inside sales representative, and lately became a bidder / estimator for Ferguson Enterprises, a sister company of Wolsley. His passion for the sea, the beautiful beaches that nestle against it, waterways that cut through it, and the wonderful township that resides around it was the reason why William moved to the Wilmington area.
